With just a few weeks left in this year’s legislative session, Governor Newsom has released his proposed climate package. He’s calling on state legislators to pass laws that would significantly reduce climate pollution by 2030, scale up nature-based carbon sequestration, and institute public health setbacks from both new and existing oil and gas wells. This would not have happened without your activism!
It’s unusual for the governor to be this hands-on when it comes to climate legislation and his leadership is sorely needed. However, we must do more to secure the most ambitious, equitable climate package possible. Join us and advocates from across California in urging Governor Newsom and lawmakers to:
- Accelerate the timeline for reaching carbon neutrality, followed by net-negative emissions as soon as possible;
- Prioritize nature-based solutions to remove carbon from the atmosphere, improve food and water security, and build resilience to greater climate extremes;
- Invest in renewable, decentralized energy like solar and storage; and
- Add guardrails to protect frontline communities from the harms of fossil fuel pollution.
