AB 1207 strengthens and extends the Cap and Trade program, a market-based system that focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and generating funds to invest in climate solutions, by improving affordability and stabilizing the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.

The Cap and Trade program was created to help meet California’s goal of reducing emissions by 40 percent by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. It is our most cost effective policy for reducing emissions while also generating billions of dollars for climate programs that support clean energy, wildfire resilience, healthy habitats, urban greening and community protections. Reauthorization ensures that we keep this framework in place. It sends a strong market signal and secures the funding to make Californians healthier, safer and more prosperous by investing in real climate solutions.
