Elliot Daum’s Ride for the Climate Protection Campaign

California Superior Court Judge Elliot Daum raised the bar of his own personal fitness and cycling goals to benefit the Climate Protection Campaign this May. Elliot took to the road to train this Spring, and was rewarded with a four-day journey from San Francisco to Sacramento with approximately 150 riders. All riders raised funds to participate, with half of the proceeds benefitting organizations working to address community action to reverse global warming the Climate Protection Campaign.

Here is Elliot’s story:

I had a truly wonderful experience and I will definitely look to do it again. The encounters with fellow riders and the conversations at the dinner table were most enjoyable and often inspiring. I told my wife that if the planet is going to be saved, it’s going to be saved by the kind of people that were on that ride, their cohorts, friends and fellow-dreamers–and if I may add, people like the staff at the Climate Protection Campaign.

The ride itself was very well designed. The first day out of San Francisco and across the bridge was magical. The ride through Marin provided magnificent views and beautiful roadways through the coastal hills, with a delightful finish at the Lagunitas Brewery. Beer and blues, a great combo! The second day was almost all Sonoma County, and the third day was especially easy because the 46 miles or so was either down hill or flat. The very challenging last day of 80 miles with a very major hill to get out of the Napa Valley was capped by our triumphant arrival at the Capitol Building. I appreciated the greeting from our own Senator Chesbro and another member of the state legislature.

I considered myself to be both the oldest and best-rested person on the trip since I spent the first night in my own bed, the second in a sweet B & B in Calistoga, and my third night with my wife in a very comfy hotel in Napa. I had a wonderful time on the ride and I’m just really glad I got to do it!

Elliot makes it look easy and fun! To learn more about participating in an upcoming Climate Ride to benefit the Climate Protection Campaign, please contact Kristin Berger, 707-525-1665, x123, Kristin@theclimatecenter.org.
