Electricity bills are rising and energy demand is growing in California. We’re facing an affordability crisis where families across the state are struggling to pay their bills while investor-owned utilities continue to rake in record-setting profits.
Three bills before the California legislature right now can help. SB 868 (Wiener), the Plug and Play Solar Act, will make portable, small-scale solar power available to millions of California renters. AB 1813 (Ward), the Community Renewable Energy Program Act, will expand access to community solar and storage. SB 905 (Becker) will strengthen accountability for investor-owned utilities and control rising electricity costs by better utilizing the existing electrical grid.
These bills will make it easier to utilize local, clean energy to save money and make the grid more resilient. A recent poll by Embold Research found that eight in ten voters say reducing electricity bills should be a top or important priority for lawmakers. The California legislature has a responsibility to implement clean energy measures to make our electricity more affordable. Take action to support clean energy solutions in California today!
