The Redwood Coast Energy Authority’s (RCEA’s) Airport Microgrid project will provide clean electricity and resilience in emergencies for critical rescue and transportation services in Humboldt County. In collaboration with the grid owner, the project will demonstrate the economic viability and a replicable business case for CCAs deploying microgrids in California.
This is the final webinar in the Adobe Foundation-sponsored series of four webinars focusing on the relationship between Community Choice agencies and Distributed Energy Resources. In this webinar we will briefly introduce the new Clean Power Exchange online DER⌁Hub, and then proceed to a presentation on the Redwood Coast Energy Authority’s (RCEA’s) Airport Microgrid project.
Our presenters for this webinar are Richard Engel, James Zoellick, and Nikky Avila. Richard Engel is the Director of Power Resources for RCEA, James Zoellick is the Managing Research Engineer at Humboldt State University’s Schatz Energy Research Center, and Nikky Avila is Senior Grid Innovation Engineer for PG&E.
Topics addressed will include:
• Genesis of the project and project funding
• Project objectives and timeline
• How the microgrid will work — including customer involvement, services offered, and connectivity to grid
• Project partners and stakeholders and how they work together
• Challenges — technological, financial, regulatory, political
• What’s particularly innovative about the project?
• Replicability by other CCAs — What challenges are they likely to face?
