This event — part of the annual United Nations climate change conference, COP30, in Belém, Brazil — will explore the benefits of nature-based solutions as a critical part of the Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) portfolio. California has established nation-leading targets for scaling nature-based climate solutions, as defined in AB 1757 (C. Garcia and R. Rivas, 2022). These solutions both draw down carbon from the atmosphere while also building resiliency to worsening climate impacts. Nature-based climate solutions are cost-effective, publicly supported, and readily scalable that also provide cleaner air and water in communities. Scaling these solutions now will help increase carbon removal in the short term while researchers and start-ups continue to test and refine technological CDR practices.
