The outcome of this presidential election is a blow to our community’s hopes for accelerated, equitable climate action. But this election does not spell the end of climate progress.

Why? Because we in the California climate movement are resilient, we are committed, and we refuse to give up the fight.

Our foundational belief at The Climate Center still holds true. As goes California, so goes the world. What we do here in California significantly influences other states, the nation, and the world. Together, we will lead a renewed charge for equitable climate action that meets the scale of the crisis we face. With active engagement from The Climate Center community and the whole climate movement, California will continue to be the leader our country and the world urgently need.

Fortunately, I also have some good news to share today. Prop 4, the California climate bond, just passed!

Thanks to your support and activism, California will invest another $10 billion in clean air and water, resilience to wildfires, protection against extreme heat, drought and flood preparedness, and climate-beneficial agriculture.

The Climate Center community played a pivotal role in getting Prop 4 on the ballot and mobilizing voters to ensure it passed. More than 1,000 of you took action to make Prop 4 as strong as possible and thousands more voted yes — thank you!

Together, we will ensure that California continues its leadership to reduce climate pollution, keep people safe, and protect our environment.

We can always make a difference. And together we will. California’s role in combating the climate crisis is more important than ever. That means our work at The Climate Center is more important than ever, too. If you can support our urgent work to secure a climate-safe future with a donation today, I’d appreciate it. We’ll need it for the fights that surely lay ahead. Thank you for your continued generosity and engagement!

As Rebecca Solnit wrote late last night, “Take care of yourself and remember that taking care of something else is an important part of taking care of yourself, because you are interwoven with the ten trillion things in this single garment of destiny that has been stained and torn, but is still being woven and mended and washed.”

Warm wishes to you all on this challenging day. Then onward — with all our passion, smarts, and love.
