United Nations climate conference, COP26 postponed

COP26, the next United Nations climate change conference that was set to take place in Glasgow in November 2020 has been postponed until 2021.

  • This conference, which brings leaders from all around the world together to coordinate climate initiatives, was postponed due to the current coronavirus pandemic 
  • Various climate leaders are still committing to address climate issues in their countries before next years conference
  • UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa said, “COVID-19 is the most urgent threat facing humanity today, but we cannot forget that climate change is the biggest threat facing humanity over the long term. Soon, economies will restart. This is a chance for nations to recover better, to include the most vulnerable in those plans, and a chance to shape the 21st-century economy in ways that are clean, green, healthy, just, safe and more resilient.”

The impacts of climate change are hitting harder and faster than expected, posing grave threats to human health and well-being. Urgent policies and actions are needed and The Climate Center is leading with our Climate-Safe California Campaign.
