What we do in California to address the climate crisis has a ripple effect across the world. With a climate-denying, pro-oil president waging war on federal climate action, California’s climate leadership is more important than ever.

Climate deniers in the White House are attacking federal climate progress at every level. Thousands of federal workers have been fired and climate change has been scrubbed from federal websites. The Environmental Protection Agency has recommended reversing its finding that greenhouse gas emissions are a danger to public health and may stop tracking emissions altogether. Recently, the president issued an executive order aiming to strip states’ authority to fight the climate crisis. This administration has vowed to increase reliance on polluting fossil fuels, kill clean energy, and strip funding for climate programs.

Our elected officials in California — led by Governor Newsom, Senate President pro tempore Mike McGuire, and Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas — have already sprung into action to defend California’s climate progress from the new administration’s attacks. But we need more than defense. 

To save lives and inspire the world to greater climate action, California will need to fight back against climate deniers in DC.
