Rick Theis

Rick has been an outspoken advocate for sustainable development since serving on the Santa Rosa Planning commission in 1989. He went on to serve on the boards of Urban Ecology and  TransFormCA. Rick founded the Leadership Institute for Ecology and the Economy to train leaders to create public policy for a sustainable future. His home won the award for Best New Custom Home in the first Sonoma-Marin Build it Green Home Tour in 2005. He received the Leadership in Zero Net Energy (ZNE) award in 2018 from the New Buildings Institute, on behalf of California’s investor‐owned utilities for his role as a trustee at Sonoma Academy in the planning, design, and construction of the ZNE, LEED Platinum, Janet Durgin Guild and Commons that won several international awards for environmental design and performance. He has a BA degree in Political Science and Master of Library Science.
